Greenwich aims to make this website accessible to everyone. If you find this site difficult to read, you may wish to consider changing the text size or page colour/contrast using the accessibility control tools at the bottom of each page.

Ways to make this site easier to use

To change colours choose from the options at the top every page.

To change text size you can either click on the font sizes that are at the top of every page, or use the built in functions of your browser software:

  • Internet Explorer
    From the menu buttons at the very top of your screen, select "view" and then select "text size" 

  • Firefox
    Press the "Ctrl" and "+" keys at the same time to make text larger.
    Press the "Ctrl" and "-" keys at the same time to make text smaller.
    Or go to "view" and then select "text size"

  • Mozilla
    Press the "Ctrl" and "+" keys at the same time to make text larger.
    Press the "Ctrl" and "-" keys at the same time to make text smaller.
    Or go to "view" and then select "text zoom"

  • Opera
    Enable numeric keypad by pressing "Num Lock", then:
    Press 0 to zoom in.
    Press 9 to zoom out.
    Or go to "view" and then select "zoom"

  • Netscape
    Press the "Ctrl" and "]" keys at the same time to make text larger.
    Press the "Ctrl" and "[" keys at the same time to make text smaller.
    Or go to "view" and then select "increase font or "decrease font".

Working towards accessibility

Automated tests have shown that at least 95 per cent of the pages on this site comply with level A of the World Wide Web Consortium's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (W3C's WCAG). Click the logo below to find out what this means.

In line with national e-Government policy, Greenwich is working towards achieving WCAG level AA.

Greenwich also has the site periodically audited by an independent body to spot problems that cannot be detected by automated tools.

Accessibility software and services:

  • Browsealoud, free to use software that reads web pages out loud.
  • Jaws, a screen reader for Windows. A trial period demo is available.
  • Home page Reader, a screen reader for Windows. A trial period downloadable version is available.
  • Lynx, a free text only web browser for blind users with refreshable Braille displays.
  • Links, a free text only web browser for visual users with low bandwidth.
  • Opera, a visual browser with many accessibility-related features, including text zooming. A free downloadable version is available.
  • HTML Validator, a free service for checking that web pages conform to published HTML Standards.
  • Web page Backward Compatibility Viewer, a tool for viewing your web pages without a variety of modern browser features.

Content rating

This website has been rated with the Internet Content Rating Association. The rating reflects the fact that police publicity material and appeals for information sometimes include descriptions of crime. This material is always presented in context.
