The Council's translation and interpreting service is open to neighbouring councils, voluntary and statutory organisations and private institutions.

The service is not open to the general public.

We arrange accurate translations of documents including letters, promotional materials, legal contracts and brochures.

We also provide high quality interpreters to help refugees and other minority ethnic communities who are unable to communicate in English.

We cover languages spoken in and around the borough of Greenwich, including Somali and Eastern European languages.

Our pool of registered translators and interpreters are professionally qualified and are regularly tested for competency.

Document translation

We are able to translate documents to and from the following languages:

For other languages we can arrange translations to be provided via commercial language agencies, though charges are likely to be greater.

Charges for translations

  • £25 (+VAT) per 100 words
  • £10 (+VAT) for subsequent words

Please allow sufficient time for your translations. This will be dependent on the length of the document and the number of languages.

Charges for interpreting

  • First hour: £45 +VAT
  • Subsequent hours: £12 +VAT
Please allow a minimum of three working days when arranging your interpreter. Where this is not possible, an urgency fee will be added to the standard charges.
