Greenwich Local Labour Initiative

The Greenwich Local Labour Initiative (GLLI) has provided jobs for 250 unemployed local residents who now work in key roles that make a difference to the community.

The GLLI works alongside the existing Cleansweep and Community Safety teams, giving them extra resources to tackle requests for services more speedily.

Work roles

The key roles are street and estate cleaning and community safety:

Road sweeping teams

Our 12 new road sweeping teams mean that every residential road is swept on a weekly basis.

The teams are out from 7:00am to 4:30pm from Monday to Saturday.

Environmental task force

There are six GLLI teams employed to intensively clean housing estates and Council land and footpaths.

They work from 7:00am to 4:30pm, seven days a week.

Neighbourhood wardens

There are four teams of GLLI Wardens who patrol neighbourhoods seven days a week from 6:00am to 11:00pm.

Their role is to report crime and liaise with residents and the Police to re-assure residents and reduce the fear of crime.
