Cllr Chris Roberts Leader of Greenwich Council explains why Cleansweep was set up
One of the biggest issues for you is the state of the environment. Time after time, local residents tell councillors they want more done to make our streets, homes and parks cleaner and safer.
Well, we've listened...we've set up a one stop service, Cleansweep, that has as its theme 'one call does it all'. The aim is to make it easier for residents to report problems or issues about the local environment.
We're also introducing a better system of enforcement, stepping up moves to take action against the perpetrators of 'envirocrime' whether it's a dumped vehicle or litter in the street.
Looking after our environment is in all our interests. Cleansweep is part of a wider, longer-term campaign to develop a greater sense of responsibility about the environment among residents - so everyone wants to do something about it.
Prevention cuts the extra work and cost of cleaning up. Our aim is that we all - Council, residents and businesses alike - create a clean and safe Greenwich.
