There is some paperwork you need to do to record the type of waste you are disposing.
When your waste passes to another person, such as the collector, you will need to:
- write a description of the waste for the person collecting it
- sign a transfer note.
You can write the description of waste on the transfer note. Both you and the collector must sign it.
If the same company makes regular collections of the same type of waste, you can use one transfer note that covers up to a year.
You must keep your transfer notes and written descriptions for at least two years. It is an offence not to keep the records and produce them when requested by council enforcement officers.
Need help with transfer notes?
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs publishes information about business and waste on its website.
