DLR: On course to arrive at Woolwich Arsenal in 2009
In February 2004, the Government gave the go-ahead for an extension of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) to Woolwich Arsenal.
The £150 million scheme will make a dramatic difference to Woolwich town centre and the Royal Arsenal site, bringing residents closer to job opportunities in Canary Wharf and the City, while attracting businesses from much further afield.
Nearing completion
The Woolwich DLR station is all set to open in early 2009.

Getting ready for DLR at Woolwich Where will it stop?
The extension, which involves a 2.5 km link to the existing Docklands and Stratford lines of the DLR, will mean a trip from London City Airport to Woolwich will take just four minutes. It will begin at King George V’s eastern terminus, and will involve the construction of bored tunnels under the Thames.
There will be a new DLR station at Woolwich Arsenal which will provide an interchange with main line rail services and other public transport routes.
Far-reaching plans
The improved transport services are part of a wider regeneration plan that includes such key developments as the Royal Arsenal and White Hart Triangle sites, attracting more businesses to the area and bringing greater prosperity to local people.
When will it be completed?
Construction began in the summer of 2005 and is scheduled to be completed by the early 2009. The extension to London City Airport and King George V Dock were completed in 2005 and the stations are in operation.
