Safer And Stronger Communities

There are two parts to the Safer And Stronger Communities theme: community engagement and crime.

Community engagement

Three of the ways we have used to promote community engagement in the priority areas are:

  • Neighbourhood Renewal events - winter and summer family events give us and the panels the chance to consult with other residents in the community

  • local newsletters - these promote information about local services and news about changes in the priority area

  • Neighbourhood Renewal panels - the panels involve residents in decision making by having resident members alongside Councillors.
Neighbourhood Renewal panels contribute local knowledge and experience to service planning and delivery. They also hold service providers to account at a local level.

Learn about the panels in our priority areas.

Crime

The Safer And Stronger Communities (Crime) theme aims to support these main outcomes:

  • promoting safer neighbourhoods
  • respect in neighbourhoods
  • creating cleaner and greener neighbourhoods, including open spaces
The focus is on tackling the fear of crime, reducing actual incidents, supporting families and creating environments that residents can be proud to live in.

Greenwich Kickz

Three children from Kickz kicking a ball Kickz, a national social inclusion activity, uses sport and creative arts to engage with young people. It provides them with learning, training, volunteering and employment opportunities.

The project is the largest of its kind in the UK. Greenwich hosts four programmes in Eltham, Charlton, Plumstead and Abbey Wood/Thamesmead. Professional coaches from Charlton Athletic Football Club provide three sessions of two- to three-hour coaching every week for 45 to 50 weeks a year.

Find out about Greenwich Kickz on the Charlton Athletic website.
