Economic Development And Enterprise

Greenwich has made significant progress over the last ten years in tackling overall rates of unemployment in the borough. However, the biggest challenge is to address the barriers faced by disadvantaged groups and offer pathways to employment for these groups.

Key priorities

The main areas of focus for the 2006-08 programme are:

  • providing support and pathways to employment for lone parents and people with disabilities

  • offering capacity-building measures to small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) in the borough

  • addressing the gaps in provision of support for young people aged 14 to 19, who left school with little or no qualifications, to enable them to access mainstream employment and work-based learning.
