Making a difference - the story so far

 
Greenwich Neighbourhood Renewal has funded 345 projects across four cross-cutting themes in the five years from 2001.

Since 2001, the Government has allocated Greenwich £32 million of Neighbourhood Renewal Fund (NRF):

  • 2001 to 2004 - £8.7 million
  • 2004 to 2006 - £11.65 million
  • 2006 to 2008 - 11.3 million.

Targets

The NRF is used for projects aimed at reducomg the gap between the most deprived areas and the rest of the borough. Performance targets are set for measures relating to:

  • reducing crime
  • raising educational attainment levels at key exam stages
  • tackling poor health and health inequality
  • improving housing and the environment
  • raising levels of employment and business enterprise

Reducing inequality

Greenwich Neighbourhood Renewal has contributed to reducing geographical inequality and improving lives in the most disadvantaged communities by:

  • improving the range and quality of services delivered by the Council and other service organisations
  • supporting the Council and other service providers in finding new ways of planning and delivering services
  • helping the Council and other service providers to target those residents in real need
  • strengthening the community to make decisions about urban renewal and service delivery in their own neighbourhood.
