The whole point of regeneration is to secure benefits for local communities. This includes local businesses.
Business growth
In the 12 months from August 2005, we have recorded a 1.6% growth in VAT-registered businesses.
Black and ethnic minority businesses in the borough are also increasing.
Business support
We opened the Greenwich Business Development Centre as a one-stop shop for business support. In 2005/06, it dealt with 787 business enquiries.
Small and minority businesses are also receiving support in accessing local contracts. This is done through Business Brokerage service and the Capacity Building contract with the Greenwich Enterprise Board.
Contract opportunities arise in regeneration areas, such as Greenwich Peninsula. Through Greenwich Local Labour and Business (GLLAB) and the Greenwich Enterprise Board, the Council has supported local businesses to access these opportunities.
Business Works has been providing support for start-up businesses. It is also preparing to help start-ups take advantage of the opportunities that the 2012 Games will bring.
Commercial space
New commercial floor space is now available as a result of regeneration.
