Royal Arsenal

Business unit at Royal Arsenal New business park built to attract businesses to Woolwich.
Undoubtedly the flagship development for Woolwich, the Royal Arsenal is a key waterfront site which used to be derelict and inaccessible. The site is approximately 30 hectares.

Recent development

A large mixed use development combining new builds with the renovation of several listed buildings has given the area a new lease of life.

The development has so far provided:

  • 1,248 new homes, of which 328 are affordable units
  • a new heritage quarter housing the Greenwich Heritage Centre and Firepower, The Royal Artillery Museum
  • Woolwich Pier and a new park
  • a new business centre with a raft of employment uses.
The business centre is known as Start Woolwich, and provides support to new and growing businesses.

Future development

The Council granted outline planning permission for a Masterplan for the redevelopment of land at the Royal Arsenal and Warren lane. The Masterplan proposes a new commercial and leisure quarter in Woolwich and includes:

  • 2,517 new homes
  • retail uses
  • restaurants and cafes
  • drinking establishments
  • offices
  • a hotel
  • community health care, nursery, leisure and museum uses
  • a cinema
Proposals also include a combined heat and power plant, open space and car parking.
