Suspension of right-to-buy on estate

Recent changes in the law will affect the right to buy your council home. The changes mean that councils can suspend the right-to-buy in areas where they are planning regeneration schemes. This is why we now want to suspend the right-to-buy on the Ferrier housing estate.

The law says we must serve “Initial Demolition Notices” before suspending the right-to-buy (You should receive one in the post). This explains:

  • when we will start and finish demolishing homes on the Ferrier estate
  • which homes will be demolished.

Demolition period

4 July 2005 to 25 January 2010

You can download the relevant Initial Demolition Notices here.

Please note there is a separate Initial Demolition Notice for 129-140 Pinto Way. This is being treated as a separate phase for the purpose of suspending the right-to-buy on the Ferrier estate.

Premises to be demolished

You can download the list of premises to be demolished here.

Why you should not worry

1. The Initial Demolition Notice does not mean that your home is about to be demolished. The estate will be demolished in carefully planned phases. We will inform you before we start each phase. (The first phase starts on 4 July 2005)

2. The changes in the right-to-buy rules will not affect you if you made a valid claim to the right-to-buy before 18 January 2005.

3. Your future right-to-buy will not be affected if you move from the Ferrier estate but remain a secure tenant in a council home.
