Construction and demolition
Developers and construction companies have to take pollution issues into account when designing and building new schemes. They have to deal with pollution on sites (such as contaminated land or asbestos) as well as
pollution during construction (noise, dust, etc).
Pollution issues
The environment health team
works closely with the Council's development control team, providing advice on the pollution issues affecting planning decisions. In this section, developers and building firms can find advice on:
contaminated land
n
oise
air quality
dust
smells (odours)
smoke from burning
other pollution issues
.
Essential guidance
Developers used to complying with planning conditions will be aware of of these essential references, available from the Planning Portal website:
PPG24 – Planning and noise
PPS23 - Planning and pollution control
.
Do make sure you understand these two documents thoroughly before planning any new schemes.
Further information
If you are a developer or construction contractor, you are encouraged to discuss your schemes with us as soon as you can. Pollution issues can be more easily resolved if tackled early in the planning process.
