How to comment on planning applications
As part of the consideration of a planning application, consultation will be undertaken with interested parties. In most instances, this will mean notifying the occupiers of properties that are located immediately adjacent to an application site.
For larger developments, which are of interest to a wider portion of the borough's population, the scope of the consultation exercise will be expanded.
How interested parties may be notified
Notification of applications may be in the form of:
individual letters sent to interested parties
site notices placed around the application site
publication of a press notice in a local paper.
Some applications - due to the scale of the proposed works - will be advertised using a combination of notification options.
What to do if you are notified
On being notified of an application, you may inspect the application:
online using our
planning applications online resource
at the relevant local library
or at the planning department offices.
If you wish to comment on the application, you should do so in writing within 21 days of the date of the consultation notification.
What to include when commenting
When commenting on an application, please include your:
your name and address
the relevant planning application number
address of the application site.
The information will:
help officers identify which application you are referring to
enable the Council to invite you to either the area planning committees or Planning Board and inform you of a decision.
If you would like to be sent a letter with the outcome of the decision, please request this in your email or letter, and include your name and postal address.
You should set out clearly why you believe planning permission should be granted or refused. Please note that officers can only take into consideration those issues that are planning related.
Where to send your comments
You can:
comment on planning applications online
or send your comments in by post, fax or email.
Send your comments directly to the case officer. The case officer's contact details will be on:
the consultation letter you received
the planning applications online resource
If you are sending your comments by post, the address is:
