Planning permission and applications
Do I need permission?
Satellite dishes
You need to apply for planning permission if there will be two or more dishes on the property or if its diameter is more than 90cm.
You must also think about where to put your dish.
It should not be visible from the road. If you can find a place that is out of sight and if the two other factors (size and quantity) don't apply, you may not need permission.
This is also true for a property in a
Conservation Area
or a
listed building
.
Find a place for your satellite dish
The
Satellite Dish Tool
on the Planning Portal will help you find a place to put your dish without planning permission.
Remember, you are responsible for the appropriate position of satellite dishes – not the installer. If you have any doubt, contact the planning service.
Flats and satellite dishes
If there will be more than two satellite dishes on the building, it is necessary to apply for planning permission.
Look into whether the building has a system in place that shares satellite signals. Maybe a system like this could be set up.
Suppliers and installers
Obtain your equipment from reputable suppliers, eg members of the Radio, Electrical and Television Retailers' Association (RETRA) or from the broadcaster.
Use installers who are members of the Confederation of Aerial Industries Limited (CAI). Also think about the dish colour and alternative designs such as mesh.
