FAQ
What if the work has already been done?
The building regulations require notification before building work starts.
If the work has been done illegally without approval, the regulations allow for regularisation of work that was done before 1986.
You will need to apply for a
regularisation certificate
. A surveyor will come to inspect the work, which is when exposing parts of the construction might be necessary. If the work is found to be deficient in any way, you will be required to carry out remedial work to make it comply with the regulations.
