Greener transport within the Council
The Council is taking steps to cut carbon dioxide emissions from its own transport.
Staff are encouraged to walk, cycle, car-share or use public transport to travel to work. The new civic centre - opening in Woolwich in 2009 - will have cycle storage, shower and changing facilities to encourage staff to cycle to work.
Greener vehicle fleet
The Council has also been greening its own vehicle fleet. Many vehicles now run on a bio-diesel fuel mixture, which reduces carbon dioxide emissilns.
The Council is working in partnership with Seltrans and other local boroughs on a pilot project to set up a bio-diesel plant that recycles waste food oils to produce bio-diesel fuel for Council vehicles.
