A dry valley lined with scrub heathland vegetation, sloping down steeply from the level of Plumstead Common to the flood plain of the Thames.
There are large ponds towards the lower end.

Slade Pond, managed by the Plumstead Common Environment Group, has been awarded the Green Pennant award for 2008-2009.
The award is made to high quality green spaces managed by community groups.
