Blackheath

A large expanse of amenity (mown) grass, on relatively level ground. There are some undulating areas of gorse and scrub to the east of the heath near Vanbrugh Terrace.

Long Pond

To the north of the heath, visitors may visit an attractive pond, known both as the Long Pond and the Folly Pond. You will often spot a heron standing by the water's edge.

The pond is situated near the main gates of Greenwich Park (which is maintained by the Royal Parks Agency, not Greenwich Council) between Shooters Hill Road and Charlton Way.

Donkey rides

Children can take donkey rides on the heath from Duke Humphrey Way. Rides are normally available during school holidays, bank holidays and at weekends from 10am to 5pm.

Andrew Gibb Memorial

A bandstand-like structure, The Andrew Gibb Memorial, is at the junction of Charlton Way and Maze Hill.
