Cllr Steve Offord
Cllr Steve Offord was elected Mayor of Greenwich on 20 May 2008.
The Deputy Mayor is Cllr Allan MacCarthy.
Background
Cllr Steve Offord was born in Congress Road in Abbey Wood.
He has been married for over 40 years, and has three children and two grandchildren.
He began work in the health department of the Metropolitan Borough of Woolwich in 1962. He became Head of Environmental Health at Greenwich Council.
During his career, he has worked for local MP Clive Efford, has carried out health and safety checks for the Fostering Agency and was secretary of Nalgo.
Cllr Offord was elected in 2002 to represent the Abbey Wood ward.
Cllr Offord has been actively involved with local schools for many years.
He is currently chair of governors at Montbelle Primary School, and has been a governor there since 1981. He is a governor for Abbey Wood School, and was also chair of governors for Crown Woods School for 10 years.
He works as a mentor at Thomas Tallis School, and runs a youth club at the New Eltham Methodist Church.
Cllr Offord has a keen interest in many sports such as cricket, football, badminton and netball. He has supported Charlton Athletic Football Club since he was eight.
Education
Cllr Offord attended Bostall Lane Primary School (now Alexander McCleod Primary School) and the Roan School for Boys in Blackheath.
