Who is the current Leader?
The current Leader of the Council is
Cllr Chris Roberts
. He represents the
Peninsula
ward.
He was elected to Greenwich Council in 1994 as a representative for St Alfege. In 1995, he became vice-chair of the planning and development committee, which he subsequently chaired from 1996 to 1999.
In that year, Chris became Executive Member for Regeneration and Chair of the Regeneration Board.
Chris’s main interests have been economic development and tackling long-term unemployment. He has overseen major planning applications which have had a major impact on the regeneration of the Borough, including the Dome and the wider Greenwich peninsula, Deptford Creek and Thamesmead.
He has led the Borough’s transport strategy and taken a special interest in Greenwich town centre.
London-wide, Chris has represented the Council on the Association of London Government and is Chair of the Thames Gateway London Partnership.
