How to vote
Voting by proxy
Proxy voting means appointing somebody else to vote for you on your behalf.
If you appoint a proxy, that person will be given your ballot paper at your polling station and will be able to cast your vote on your behalf.
You can still vote personally if you get to your polling place before your proxy. If they are
voting for you by post
, however, you will not be able to vote yourself.
Download a proxy vote application form here
.
Temporary proxy voting
You can appoint a proxy for a specific election, as long as you give a reason.
Indefinite proxy voting
Indefinite or continuing proxy voting is available only to electors who are:
blind
receive the higher rate of the mobility component of the disability living allowance
have a physical disability
cannot reasonably be expected to get to their polling station because of their occupation or employment (including people attending educational courses).
Postal proxy voting
Your proxy can apply to have your ballot paper sent to him or her instead of having to go to your polling station. Postal proxy arrangements are useful if your proxy lives outside your area.
For more on proxy voting, please contact the Electoral Office using the details on the right.
