FAQ
Who can see my details in the register?
It depends. There are two versions. Both are updated monthly.
Full register
The full register lists everybody who is entitled to vote. Anyone can look at it, but copies can only be supplied for certain purposes such as elections and law enforcement.
General viewing
Credit reference agencies can use the register but only to check your name and address if you are applying for credit and to help stop money laundering. For a complete list, see
Who gets the full register?
It is a criminal offence for people who receive the full register to pass it on or to use it for any purpose other than that allowed by law.
You can inspect the full register at the electoral office and at three local libraries. It is organised by address and polling district, not by name like a telephone directory, so if somebody doesn’t know where you live they will find it hard to find your entry in the register.
Staff at the electoral office and in the libraries will not disclose the names or addressess of electors. Neither is the register available on the council’s website.
Edited register
This is available for sale to anyone who wants it. When you register to vote, you will be given the option to be included in this version or not.
