Kidbrooke redevelopment

Thousands of people in Kidbrooke are set to benefit from a complete rebuilding of their area.

The Council has choosen Berkeley Homes (East Thames) Ltd and their partners Southern Housing Group and ASRA housing associations to deliver a multi-million pound redevelopment project.

Funding

This year, the Council signed a Comprehensive Development Agreement with Berkeley Homes for the majority of the redevelopment of Kidbrooke.

In April 2007, the Treasury approved approximately £45million in support from English Partnerships.

The funding will help in demolition and infrastructure works to get the development under way.

Work programme

Planning applications for the project are due soon. The first new homes are expected to be completed by winter 2009/2010.

The Council is continuing to re-house tenants from the Ferrier Estate. To date, about 600 people have been re-housed. Of the people who have left the estate, 68 per cent have moved within the same postcode ensuring families have access to local schools and networks.

New homes

The £750m scheme will create more than 4,400 new homes and over 1,000 jobs and training opportunities. Everyone in the area will be able to benefit from greater access to community space - including a new park.

There will also be improved transport links, while the centre will include shops and a space for people to relax.

Proposals for the redevelopment of Thomas Tallis Secondary School under our Building Schools for the Future programme are an integral part of the Kidbrooke development scheme.
