Children's Centres: helping you access services for your children.
Greenwich's Children’s Centres provide integrated education, health and family services for children aged under five and their parents.
The Centres are all about putting the services that you need in one place, and making access to those services as easy as possible.
The Council is working to open Children's Centres across the borough.
What we've done so far
The first phase of the Children's Centres programme was completed in mid-2007, with sixteen Children’s Centres now open.
These centres provide more than 900 early years and childcare places, open all year round, 8am to 6pm.
The Children's Centres play a key role in Greenwich in providing core services and integrating health, family support, early learning and development for children, with training and employment opportunities for parents.
The next stage
Development is well under way for the second phase of the Children's Centres programme.
This will see the opening of the following seven new centres:
- Discovery Primary School and Children’s Centre
- Eltham Town Centre
- Invicta Primary School
- Plumstead High Street
- Plumstead Common Network
- Shooters Hill Network (Gatehouse and Thames Tiddlers)
- Waterways
Phase Two involves a very significant capital investment of over £4.3 million. Funding has come from the SureStart programme (follow the link on the right of this page for further information about SureStart Children's Centres).
The Government aims to develop 3,500 Children's Centres across the UK by 2010.
Details of the third phase of the programme will be published soon.
