CARE: Promoting Equality, Diversity and Cohesion

CARE is an award winning multisport and arts based partnership, led by Greenwich Council and Charlton Athletic Football Club.

CARE aims to build positive community relations by:

    • tackling discrimination
    • promoting social inclusion
    • strengthening community spirit
    • building bridges between people from different backgrounds

What is CARE?

CARE stands for Charlton Athletic Race Equality (CARE) Partnership.

The groundbreaking CARE Partnership, which was established by Greenwich Council and Charlton Athletic FC in 1992, has made a continuous contribution to promoting equality.

Although the initial focus was to address racism, the work has expanded to embrace a wider equality and diversity agenda, with a particular focus on community cohesion.

CARE uses innovative sports and arts initiatives to engage with the community, and to build positive community relations by tackling inequality and discrimination.

CARE works in particular with underrepresented groups and in disadvantaged areas.

Who are the CARE Partners?

This unique CARE partnership is led by Greenwich Council and Charlton Athletic Football Club, who are widely recognised as one of the most successful football clubs in the country at promoting social inclusion, building community cohesion, and tackling racism.

Chair of Charlton Athletic FC and Joint Chair of CARE Partnership Martin Simons said:

“CARE has a very impressive track record of delivering some great work in the local community.”

Other partners include, a range of voluntary and community organisations, as well as Kick It Out, Greenwich Community College, London Leisure College, the Metropolitan Police, and Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL).
