Neighbourhood statistics

Access additional facts and raw data about Greenwich and your neighbourhood from the Neighbourhood Statistics website.

How to use Neighbourhood Statistics site

Detailed data for your area

On the homepage there is a link to 'Find statistics for an area' that is designed to make it quicker and easier to get a range of detailed data for individual areas, such as electoral wards. Simply type in the postcode or the ward name in step 1, then select 'ward' in step 2 and then click the search button. You can then select topics from a list. The data table will give data for your chosen ward together with comparison against the local authority, the region and England.

Summary data for your area

On the homepage use the link 'Neighbourhood Summary'. You must use a postcode to search and will receive a mix of summary data topics, such as population, crime, health etc.

How to use the site for more detailed enquiries

For more detailed enquiries go to the 'I WANT TO' heading near the middle of the homepage.

There are two links, you can 'view or download data by topic' or 'create customised tables, charts and maps'. The first provides individual data topics for all areas of England and Wales. The second allows the mix and match of areas and topics.

You will be able to access a variety of statistics for different topics, including:

  • 2001 Census
  • Access to services
  • Community well-being
  • Social environment
  • Crime and safety
  • Economic deprivation
  • Education
  • Skills and training
  • Health and care
  • Housing
  • Indices of deprivation and classifications
  • People and Society
  • Physical environment
  • Work deprivation (deals with work, employment and unemployment related issues)
Follow the instructions on the screen to view the data, or download directly to your computer.

There is a user guide on the Neighbourhood Statistics website that may be helpful.

Notes on 'geography'

You may be asked to define the geographic area you are interested in.

  • 'NeSS Geography Hierarchy' is based on aggregations of Output Areas (OAs) and has been introduced to avoid the frequently changing geography of electoral wards. It is also intended to allow a range of different sizes of area at which data can be presented.
  • Output Areas (OAs) are small clusters of about 120 households / 250 people·
  • 2003 Administrative Hierarchy relates to wards (see the Ward Structure link on the left for Greenwich wards)
