Health and social care
The Health of Londoners' Strategy sets out a picture of broad health issues in Greenwich. In comparison to East and South East London, Greenwich is one of the worst in terms of children at risk, smoking, fertility rates, unfit dwellings and health inequalities generally.
Teenage pregnancy
Teenage pregnancy raises specific concern. Conception rates among girls aged 13-15 in Greenwich are 11.5 per 1000, compared to 5.6 per 1000 in Bexley and 7.6 per 1000 in the South Thames region.
Low birth weights
Low birth weights are also 8.4 per cent compared to a national figure of 7.6 per cent.
Disabilities
More than 1,200 people (of working age) claim severe disablement allowance. According to the Greenwich healthcare register, there are just under 2000 children with disability.
Income support
There are over 6,000 lone parents claiming Income Support, with a total of 17,378 children living in families receiving Income Support.
