Thames Clipper service ready and waiting!
3 March 2006
Woolwich residents are being urged to take advantage of the Thames Clipper river service that’s running from the Woolwich Royal Arsenal Pier.
The service that has you from Woolwich to Canary Wharf in 25 minutes, or to central London in less than 40 minutes, is a pleasant alternative for commuters from the usual ways of getting into work, and is an enjoyable ride for visitors and tourists.
With the temporary closure of platform 2 at the Woolwich Arsenal Station in May to allow DLR construction work, residents are being reminded about the Thames Clipper river service that takes you from Woolwich to central London for as little as £2.
Councillor Peter Brooks, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Human Resources, said,
“The Thames Clipper service is another example of the excellent transport links that are available to Woolwich residents.”
“As well as the Thames Clipper, work has started on the Docklands Light Railway station at Woolwich, and the Council continues its campaign to bring a Crossrail station to the town.”
For details on the Thames clipper service including queries on fares and tickets you can contact Thames Clippers on 0870 781 5049, alternatively find them on the web at

Notes to editors:
Woolwich Arsenal Station’s platform 2 will be closing for 3 months, from 20 May until 20 August for maintenance work. All trains (including semi-fast) will stop instead at Woolwich Dockyard and Plumstead stations.
The Council is currently asking Setrains about measures they will implement when the platform is closed, and if a rail replacement bus service will be operated. Details will be publicised about this as soon as possible.
There are also a series of weekends, starting on 9 April, when the track will be completely closed between Charlton and Plumstead for engineering works and for these a replacement bus service will operate.
Weekend Closures
All closures will commence at 01.00hrs on Saturday mornings and are:
9 April (27hrs), 20 May (52hrs), 27 May (72hrs), 3 June (52hrs), 12 August (52hrs), 19 August (52hrs) and 15 September (52hrs)
