Graffiti fines in Greenwich

20 March 2006

Graffiti daubers in Greenwich are being warned they now face being landed with a £50 fine for spraying on walls in the borough.

The message is going up on the buses, along with the warning that dropping litter could also lead to a £50 fine.

Graffiti hit squads from the Council are out each day as part of a deep clean of the main streets and local shopping centres.

Residents can also play their part in the fight to keep the borough’s walls free from graffiti. From this month, they are being encouraged to “Blag a tag” and “Keep your scene clean” by an award-winning poster by Trevor O’Connor.

The 10-year-old, from Thorntree Primary School in Charlton, was one of those who took part in an inter-school competition to come up with an anti-graffiti poster. The competition was organised by the Police, Greenwich Council and London & Quadrant Housing Trust.
