Safer Neighbourhoods, Safer Community
3 February 2006
Residents are being given the opportunity to find out what Greenwich Council and the Police are doing to help make Greenwich safer, at a series of four Community Safer Panel events.
The Panels will be run as drop-in events and will give residents the chance to find out more about what is being done to reduce the levels of crime in the borough and how the Council, Police and others are working in partnership to improve safety in the local area.
The focus of the events is how the Council and the Police are implementing the new Licensing Act in Greenwich and how the Police’s Safer Neighbourhood Teams are being rolled out across the borough.
The events will include exhibitions from a range of local services that are working to improve safety, with exhibitions from the Council; on licensing issues, the Police, London Fire Brigade and Victim Support.
At the events, residents can tell the Council, and the Police about the crime and safety issues that most concern them the most, and put questions to the police and to local councillors on a one to one basis.
The events take place from 3-7pm on a drop-in basis on:
· Eltham, SE9 – Wednesday 8 February – at Horn Park Community Centre, Sibthorpe Rd, SE12
· Thamesmead/Plumstead – Thursday 9 November – at Glyndon Community Centre, Raglan Road, SE18
· Greenwich/Charlton – Tuesday 14 February – Jubilee Hall, Greenwich South Street, SE10
· Woolwich – Thursday 23 February – Citizens Gallery, 151 Powis Street, SE18
Councillor Rajwant Sidhu, Cabinet Member for Community Safety, said:
“These events give residents the opportunity to tell the Council and the Police their concerns and what they want to see improved upon in their local area. Greenwich Council is committed to working with the Police to tackle these issues and we aim together to build a safer Greenwich.”
