Key stage 3 figures reveal year on year improvements

1 April 2006

Recently announced 2005 school performance tables show that Greenwich schools have improved their performance at Key Stage 3 (KS3) since 2002.  The figures also reveal that Greenwich has improved in all the key stages (2, 3 and 4) since last year.

The figures show students performance at KS3 (aged 13/14) on the three core subjects of English, Maths and Science.  Aggregate test percentages for students achieving level 5 or above have risen from 158 in 2002 to 186 in 2005.

Greenwich has improved in all of the core subject areas since 2004 with results in English rising 4 percentage points, Maths rising 3 percentage points, with the biggest rise in Science at 7 percentage points.

Paul Burnett, Director of Education, said:

“These results are a tribute to the very hard work of pupils and staff, supported by Greenwich’s commitment to raising standards in our schools.  They show that we have made good progress over the past few years in helping our students prepare for the important GCSE stage.

“There is still more work to be done and I’m confident that we have the right measures in place to improve further.  Greenwich has improved in all key stages this year and so we are moving in the right direction.”
