Introduction

 
The 1999 Local Government Act requires every Council to publish a Best Value Performance Plan (BVPP) by 30 June each year.

You can view and download the latest Corporate and Performance Plan by following the Corporate and Performance Plan 2007 link in the left menu.

Plan contents

The contents of the Plan are prescribed by the Government, although the format in which the information is provided is at the discretion of each Council.

In summary, the BVPP must include the following (as from 30 June 2003 following revised guidance issued in March 2003):

  • A clear statement about:

    the services the authority will deliver locally
    how it will deliver them
    the levels they are currently delivered to
    the levels to be expected in the future
    the action to deliver them and the timeframe
  • A summary of the authority's objectives in respect of its functions
  • A summary of current performance
  • A comparison of performance with previous financial years
  • A summary of the approach to efficiency improvement
  • A statement of the best value review programme
  • Key results from completed best value reviews
  • Performance targets for future years and a plan of action
  • A response to audit and inspection reports
  • Financial information on the authority, including capital spending and trading accounts and a description of the outturn on the previous year's budget against the budgeted figures.
