When do the reviews start and finish?

The reviews in the programme are intended to be carried out during a Municipal Year (May to May), starting as early as possible in the new year and reporting by the end of the year.

However, themed reviews cover a broad range of functions and services and are complex. Some may require a number of phases, which might take more than one Municipal Year.

Review examples

An obvious example is 24/7 review, which developed a long-term vision for future public access to our services.

This review needed us to develop a longer-term property strategy and a number of human resources and organisational development plans to support the new access strategy.

After four years of planning and putting support systems in place, this has come together as Greenwich’s Modernisation programme. The programme is delivering three new service centres in Woolwich, Eltham and Greenwich, new civic offices in Woolwich, and improvements to a range of services with new libraries, leisure facilities, community and educational facilities, children’s centres, improved secondary schools, and improved and renewed Council housing.

Other reviews

Other reviews have had a similar momentum.

The Public Realm review piloted new ways of working, and later phases of the review involved evaluating the pilots and rolling out the Cleansweep initiative across the borough.

The review of Life Chances of Children with Additional Needs laid the groundwork for the development of integrated children’s services ahead of the Government’s national agenda.
