Sharing best practice

Open day

As a Beacon Council, we held an open day on Thursday 2 November 2006 to share examples of best practice with a wide range of people from 53 organisations across the UK.

We talked to people with learning disabilities, family carers, chief executives and councillors, specialist officers and other senior Council officers and external partners from across the country.

Open day theme

The theme for the Open Day was Citizenship and Inclusion.

We talked about the ways Greenwich Council has worked with people with learning disabilities to make sure that people have better access to all of the Council’s services.

Key areas for discussion included:

  • active citizenship – how to support people so that they can get involved in the local decision-making process
  • improving access to public transport for people with learning disabilites
  • better access to local services like housing
