Removing barriers to work
Greenwich was awarded Beacon status in the ‘Removing Barriers to Work’ category from 2003-2004. This marks the great progress the council has made in this area.
Greenwich has succeeded in attracting public and private investment on an unprecedented scale, improving the local environment, supporting innovation, revitalising the local job market and much more.
One of the many positive outcomes has been the effect on employment figures. Long-term unemployment is falling faster in Greenwich than anywhere in the UK and there will be an estimated 25,000 new jobs created by 2010.
