Pay by Direct Debit

This is a cheap and easy way to pay and you don't need to fill in a new form every year. You must have a bank or building society account to use it. The Council must tell you in advance the amount that it intends to collect from your bank account each month.

To apply for a Direct Debit

You can either telephone the Council Tax office on 020 8921 4147 and arrange to pay by direct debit over the phone.

Or download the Direct debit form (pdf 439Kb) and post it to the address on the form.

(To view this document, you will require Adobe Acrobat, this can be downloaded via the link on the right.)

The Direct Debit Guarantee

  • This Guarantee is offered by all Banks and Building Societies in the Direct Debit Scheme. The efficiency and security of the scheme is monitored and protected by your own Bank or Building Society.
  • If the amount to be paid or the payment dates change, Greenwich Council will notify you within 14 working days in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed.
  • If an error is made by us or your Bank or Building Society, you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund from your branch of the amount paid.
  • You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by writing to your Bank or Building Society.
  • Please also send a copy of your letter to Greenwich Council. Please note that your Direct Debit will commence in the first available month following your bank's approval of the instruction. You can return to the main Council tax information page here.
