Best Value Teams
Best Value is about making sure Council services are always improving and provide value for money.
The Local Government Act 1999 says that 'a best value authority must make arrangements to secure continuous improvement in the way in which its functions are exercised having regard to a combination of economy, efficiency and effectiveness'.
This means that councils must carry out reviews of their functions to seek improvement.
The Council has to challenge what it currently does, compare its performance to that of other Councils, consult local people about their needs and aspirations, and make sure that its services are competitive with the best.
As part of Best Value, three themes have been identified for review over 2008 to 2009.
There is a review team for each theme. The teams are:
Environmental health and trading standards
homelessness
libraries
.
