How to complain about a councillor

Councillors must follow a code of conduct. The Code covers areas of individual behaviour, making sure Councillors do not abuse their position or their authority's resources.

If you want to complain about a Councillor's behaviour, you should complain to the Council's Probity and Conduct Panel.

The panel operates as a standards committee under the Local Government Act 2000. It promotes standards of ethical conduct and deals with complaints of misconduct against individual Councillors.

The panel has three independent members and three Councillors: one from each party represented on the Council. It is chaired by one of the independent members.

Who to send your complaint to

You can download a complaint form (pdf 51k) here.

You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to open this form. You can download this software using the links on the right of this page.

Please complete a complaint form and send it to:

The Chair of the Probity and Conduct Panel
c/o The Monitoring Officer
Law and Governance
London Borough of Greenwich
Riverside House West
Woolwich High Street
Woolwich
London SE18 6DN

What happens next

The panel will look at your complaint and decide whether it involves a potential breach of the code and, if so, whether it should be investigated.

If the panel decides the complaint should be investigated, it will refer it to the Council's Head of Law and Governance (as the Council's monitoring officer) for investigation.

If the panel decides the complaint discloses a potential serious breach of the code, it may refer it to the Standards Board for investigation.
