Free training open days
Ever thought about training for a new job? Or maybe about just taking a course that would give you added confidence to enter the world of work?
GLLaB, the Greenwich local labour and business initiative, can help you. Courses are free if you are currently unemployed and live in the borough.
Training open days
To find out more, drop in with three proofs of address and birth certificate or passport to one of two special training open days this week.
The open days are on Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24 July, starting at 9.30am. They take place at GLLaB’s main office at 122 - 130 Powis Street, Woolwich.
At the informal drop-ins you can pick up leaflets and talk to an adviser about what’s right for you.
What kind of training is on offer?
Possible courses they can point you towards include:
information technology
retail
administration
interview skills
construction plant training
security
the CSCS health and safety certificate everyone needs to work on a building site
customer service.
It’s possible to take a couple of courses to see which you prefer. Also, if you need a bit of help to get started, why not apply for the one-day confidence- boosting workshop? It will give you an idea of what employers expect these days.
GLLAB can help you with a wide range of courses and employment opportunities.
That includes a growing number of opportunities to work on the London 2012 Olympic site.
Opportunities
For example there are courses in handling a range of building site machinery, from dumper trucks right up to the 360 excavator. You’ll train in Leyton, East London, and the workshops last
between four and 10 days.
How about a career on the railways? You’ll need a personal track-safety certificate for that, and GLLaB can help. If you get through the interview and the induction, you’ll start learning about track-maintenance.
