Help with childcare while working and training

Child playing with toys on floor with woman TryChildcare: a new FREE service
It can be difficult to find childcare if you are thinking about working or going into training, particularly if you are bringing up a child on your own.

So, we have launched a new, FREE service called TryChildcare in Greenwich. We want to help you find the right childcare for your situation.

Free 'tasters'

And if you are a parent on New Deal for Lone Parents or New Deal for Partners, you are entitled to a free ‘taster’ session where you can meet childminders or visit nurseries and pick up more information.

How does it work?

If you are a parent and you are thinking about going back to work or into training and don’t have any information about childcare, simply call the Children’s Information Service or ask at your Jobcentre.

The service is free and it doesn’t matter if you need childcare straight away, or if you think you might need it in the future.

You can make an appointment at a time and place to suit you, between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

At your appointment, one of our staff will talk through all of the options available, discuss any help you may be entitled to, and — if you are on New Deal — even arrange to take you on a visit to a nursery or childminder that you think may be suitable for you.
