Foot tunnels

Need to get over to the northside of the River Thames on foot? Then try one of the borough's two foot tunnels. The tunnels and stairs are open 24 hours a day. See below for lift operating times.

Greenwich Foot Tunnel 

The Greenwich Tunnel provides a pedestrian link between Cutty Sark Gardens and Island Gardens, Tower Hamlets.

Normally, the lifts operate Monday to Saturday 7am to 7pm and Sunday 10am to 5.30pm.

If the lifts are not running, you can use the steps (about a hundred steps on each end of the tunnel).

Woolwich Foot Tunnel

The tunnel provides a pedestrian link between Woolwich and North Woolwich.

Normally, the lifts operate Monday to Saturday 7.30am to 6pm and Sunday 9am to 4.30pm.

If the lifts are not running, you can use the steps (about a hundred steps on each end of the tunnel).

Please note: The lift at North Woolwich is out of operation due to water damage. We are working to repair it as soon as possible and apologise for inconvenience caused.
