Parking shop moves to service centres

Residents can now access parking related services at the Council's two local service centres. From Monday 8 September, The Eltham Centre and The Riverside Centre offer parking services – instead of the Parking Shop at Peggy Middleton House.
The Parking Shop’s last day at Peggy Middleton House was Friday, 5 September.

Modernisation

As part of Greenwich Council’s ambitious modernisation programme, the Council is investing millions in new and improved public services.

A comprehensive range of council services can be accessed at the centres, enabling customers’ enquiries to be dealt with more quickly and efficiently at the first point of contact.

Parking is the latest service to move to the centres. Residents can already visit the centres to pay bills. They can also receive advice on or find out about:

  • benefits
  • Council Tax
  • Business Rates
  • tenancy services
  • waste services
  • and Cleansweep.
The Eltham Centre opened in November, and the Riverside Centre is providing a counter service for Woolwich prior to the opening of the new Woolwich Centre, which is currently under construction in Wellington Street, in 2010.

Contact centre

As part of the modernisation programme, the Council has also made improvements to its telephone system and website.

The new Customer Contact Centre opened in May last year and takes calls on a range of council services including housing repairs, Cleansweep, anti-social behaviour and parking.

The Contact Centre is able to manage a much larger volume of calls. Statistics show that callers are getting through in less time and are having issues resolved more quickly at the first point of contact.

The Council is also encouraging customers to save time and get on line, as the Council’s website can be used to access a whole range of council services, including paying parking penalties and applying for parking permits.

Improvements

Cllr Sajid Jawaid, Cabinet Member for Modernisation, said: "Modern systems play a very important part in providing the best Council services possible. At the heart of the modernisation programme is the improvements to our delivery of services to local residents, through face-to-face contact and our website, or by telephone and email.

"The improvements to our services, along with investment into upgrading schools and housing, building Children’s Centres, new libraries and leisure facilities are transforming the borough and making Greenwich an even better place to live, work, learn and visit."
