Road safety education
Our road safety education programme aims to inform, educate and provide information about keeping safe within the borough. The programme is part of the Government's strategy to reduce road casualty figures by the year 2010.
In the Borough of Greenwich in 2008 there were 921 road casualties. Of these, 795 people sustained slight injuries, 114 serious injuries and 12 were fatal.
Child car seats
Parents and carers can receive advice and help on the purchase and fitting of car seats from the Home and Road Safety Education team.
This will help you to comply with the law but, more importantly, it helps ensure that children get maximum protection when travelling in cars.
The team also perform car seat checks every year at events around the borough.

Crossing patrols
Our
school crossing patrols
make sure pedestrians get safely across the road every day.
Nursery and school visits
The Home and Road Safety Education team make regular nursery and primary school visits to promote road safety.

Young people
We use theatre productions in schools to promote road safety messages in a way that young people can relate to.
We offer advice and information to young people who are working towards taking their driving test and to those who have just passed the test.

Cycle training
The cycle training team also provides professional cycle training in schools, as well as free lessons open to anyone aged ten or older during the summer.

Special needs support
We also support adults and children with special needs. We aim to promote safe, independent travel for all residents of the borough.
Pedestrian crossing facilities for disabled people
Elderly people
We promote high visibility resources to elderly people within the borough. To receive more information about road safety for older people,
contact the Home and Road Safety Education team
.
Road safety plan
We also have an
annual road safety plan
which looks at safety measures to reduce traffic, improve the environment and create safer streets.
