Wheel-clamping

Greenwich Council only enforces parking on public highways and in Council car parks. If your vehicle is wheel-clamped, here is some information to help you.

On public highways

Greenwich Council does not wheel-clamp vehicles on the public highway. Instead, parking tickets are issued.

If your vehicle is wheel-clamped when parked on the public highway it may be for one of the following reasons:

  • Your vehicle has been clamped by the Driving Vehicle Licencing Authority (DVLA) as it is not taxed, and documentation left on your vehicle will confirm this. In this case, you will need to contact the DVLA compound in Belvedere, Kent, on 020 8320 6176.
  • A bailiff company has clamped your vehicle. You will need to contact the company concerned.

On Council estates

You must have a valid permit to park on a Council estate or Council estate road. Wing Security permits can be obtained from your local Neighbourhood Office.
Find your local Neighbourhood Office

Parking enforcement on Greenwich Council estates and roads includes wheel-clamping, as indicated by signs. You can contact Wing Security on 0870 444 3838.

If you have any queries about permit areas or visitor passes, you need to contact your Neighbourhood Office.

On private land

If you park on private land or in a private car park, you must comply with the rules that apply.

Private landowners are entitled to organise their own parking enforcement, which may involve wheel-clamping by a private company to stop motorists parking illegally. The possibility of wheel-clamping must be shown on signs.

All wheel-clamping companies must be licenced by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). You can contact the SIA on 0870 2430 100.
