Taxicard

Taxicards help people with mobility problems get around independently. When you want to visit friends, go shopping, simply call us with your card number and a licensed taxi (Black Cab) will pick you up.

How much?

The Taxicard is free, the cab fares are subsidised:

  • You pay a flat fee of £1.50 for each trip and we will pay the difference - up to £10.30.

If the cost shown on the meter is higher than £11.80 (£10.30 + £1.50), you must pay the extra. The fare limits are a little higher on weekends and nights.
You can make up to 104 trips a year.

Who is eligible for a Taxicard?

To get Taxicard membership:

  • you must live permanently in Greenwich, and
  • your mobility must be so restricted (long-term) that you cannot use public transport.
In order to be eligible automatically you should either:

  • Receive the Higher Rate Mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance
  • Be registered as Blind (Being Partially Sighted does not allow automatic entry)
  • Receive a War Pension Mobility Supplement
Proof will be required that you are in one of the above categories.

If you are not in one of the above categories you can still apply, but you may need to get the application form signed by your GP and/or provide more information or have a mobility assessment.
