Abnormal loads
If a lorry is carrying a load that exceeds 40 tonnes, it is classed as "abnormal".
Before you can move an abnormal load you need to inform the Police and the Council.
If you need to use a red route, you will also need to inform Transport for London.
If you plan to cross any bridges, you will need to inform the bridge owners - for example, railway companies.
How much notice do I have to give?
By law you need to give at least two full days notice.

Extremely large loads
You will need to get a special order from the
Department of Transport
if you need to move a load that is:
over 150 tonnes
longer than 27.4 metres
wider than 6.1 metres.
