What are Children's Trusts?

Children’s Trusts are partnerships that bring together all services for children and young people in an area, underpinned by the Children Act 2004 duty to co-operate, to focus on improving outcomes for all children and young people.

Key features

Key features of Children’s Trusts are that they have:

  • a shared ambition of improved outcomes for children and young people in the area, that is informed by the views of children and families - this is set out in the area’s Children and Young People’s Plan
  • inter-agency governance, with robust arrangements for inter-agency co-operation
  • inter-agency strategy, with joint planning and commissioning arrangements
  • integrated processes with effective joint working
  • integrated front-line delivery organised around the child, young person and family, not professional boundaries or agencies.
They are expected to:

  • deliver measurable improvements for all children and young people
  • have in place by 2010 consistent and high quality arrangements to provide identification and early intervention for all children and young people who need additional help.

Membership

Greenwich Children’s Trust is led by a Board chaired by the Cabinet Member for children and young people services. The Board is one of four partnership boards reporting to the Local Strategic Partnership.

Membership is drawn from the Local Authority, NHS Greenwich, the Metropolitan Police, schools and the third sector.
