Annual conference
The Mayor of Greenwich, Councillor Sajid Jawaid, joined the Learning Partnership at their annual conference and awards ceremony in the heart of Greenwich town centre last month.
He was there to hand out achievement certificates to a range of people of all ages, backgrounds and walks of life. The groups have attended UKonline classes in community centres, sheltered housing schemes and youth clubs of every kind across the borough over the past year.
Many of the learning centres have especially adapted facilities and computers for older people and for people with disabilities.
Opportunity to learn new skills
Councillor Jawaid was one of the people who helped to set up the Learning Partnership, he said:
"Congratulations to everyone for organising this conference again and bringing everyone together. This is an invaluable service which gives people an opportunity to learn new skills, whatever their age, to brush up on existing skills, and, hopefully, in many cases, to enter the job-market. And it’s all free!"
Learning Partnership chair Sabiha Shahzad, said:
"We were a pilot scheme here in Greenwich, and we’re now used as a model elsewhere in the country. Many people believe they have to be on benefits to take our classes, but this is for everyone. So get in touch - and get Eaware!"
