Local students are being encouraged to aspire to careers in business by a project developed by the Council in partnership with, training and consultancy firm, CITI.
Earlier this month, 60 Post-16 students from Greenwich attended a Personal Development Day in the impressive surroundings of Citigroup’s Canary Wharf building.
The event was run by CITI trainee graduates, themselves only a few years older than their guests, and focused on presentation skills and interview techniques. Students were coached and then interviewed by their graduate hosts.
Positive feedback
A student from Thomas Tallis, said: "It was excellent. It was good to learn and hear from people who are at the early stages of what we aspire to be."
Evaluations were equally positive from the graduates running the course, who described the students as enthusiastic and eager to learn and said it was a very rewarding experience.
Highly motivational
Maureen Glynn, who is responsible for Work Related Learning at The John Roan School, said:
"It was a fantastic opportunity for all students. The variety of skills covered to help them gain confidence for the future was excellent. The environment is highly motivational for greater achievement in their lives."
